What is Eyebrow Microblading?
Unlike an eyebrow pencil that you wipe off at night before you go to sleep, eyebrow microblading is a semi-permanent tattoo procedure where a special handheld microblading eyebrow pen is used to draw on strokes that mimic the appearance of real brow hairs. While it’s a similar process to getting a tattoo, the ink that is used is far less concentrated than that of a regular tattoo and is specifically formulated for the microblading process. Microblading is a semi-permanent tattoo technique where the pigment is manually placed into the dermis layer of the skin. This technique is the latest tattoo trend to creating beautiful, natural looking brows.
Who Should Consider Microblading?
While there are thousands of eyebrow products on the market, those that tend to opt for microblading want fuller, natural-looking eyebrows but don’t want the hassle of filling them in every single morning, or the worry that the pigment won’t last all day. If you feel you utilize a brow pencil daily, then you will benefit from microblading. However, if you are pregnant or have any medical contraindications you should not microblade your eyebrows.
Are there any side effects to microblading?
The eyebrows might be slightly swollen and red (this is normal) for the first 24-48 hours.
Bruising is rare but if it occurs, it will also subside within 24-48 hours. Gel ice packs can be used (10mins on/10mins off) In the first 6 hours to help eliminate swelling, redness and bruising.
How long does microblading procedure take?
Initial procedure can take up to 3 hours. Touch ups can take from 1-2 hours.
How Long Does Microblading Last?
Not forever, but way longer than your waterproof eyebrow gel, that’s for sure! Microblading can last anywhere from one to three years, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, and the products that you use. However, touch-ups are commonly needed about once a year, especially for those with oily skin, as the ink tends to fade and blur faster.
How long is the healing period?
10 days is the most crucial for the cuts to heal up on the outer layer of the skin; however, it takes minimum 4-6 weeks to fully heal before you can do a touch up as there is still a healing process under the skin. The strokes will appear up to 2 shades lighter after the healing process is complete.
What’s the After-Care Like When Microblading Your Eyebrows?
This isn’t a suggestion to take lightly, as it can have a direct impact on the brow look you end up with. To prevent blurring or fading, keep them dry and sweat-free for a week or longer, and to refrain from wiping. We recommend applying an ointment once a day to speed up healing.
Right after the treatment is done, the brows will be darker and slightly red, but the redness and the pigment will slightly fade in colour as the brows heal. Besides the brows being darker while healing there isn’t any major side effects, however infection and scabbing are always possible if you don’t take care of them or follow proper aftercare. All the instruments used for application are disposable in our office, therefore chances of infection happening are unlikely.
Do You Still Have to Use an Eyebrow Pencil After?
That’s up to you. However, you should wait the recommended one week (or longer) before applying product. after that, if you’re seeking a more dramatic look, we say go for it!
